1. Matsutake mushroom

It is popular to cook them using methods that maximize the aroma,

in dishes such as flavored rice, soup, steamed pot dishes and so on.

2. Pacific saury

It is one of the fish most strongly associated with autumn.

The Chinese characters represent the meaning “sword-shaped fish caught in autumn.”

Pacific saury caught around the Kesennuma area in Tohoku are said to be very tasty

because they contain the perfect amount of oil.

 3. Autumn Salmon

People eat salmon roe, or ikura, with salmon on rice, and it is called “ harako-meshi (spawn rice)”

or “Sake to ikura no oyako-don.”

4. Chestnuts

People eat chestnuts as a snack or cook them in dishes such as chestnut steamed rice,

sweet paste, boiled and preserved chestnuts in syrup and so on.

5. Sweet potatoes

Popular ways to eat them are steamed with rice as imogohan, fried with sugary syrup as daigakuimo,

made into sweet potato cakes, chakin-mushi

6. Persimmon

People eat them as fresh fruit, dry them, and use them in many other dishes

such aschopping them with tartar steak, and so on.
