Nanakusa gayu 1/7(Mon)

Nanakusa gayu is the long-standing custom of eating seven-herb
rice porridge on January 7
On the morning of January 7, or the night before, people place the nanakusa,rice scoop
on the cutting board and, facing the good-luck direction,
chant “Before the birds of the continent fly to Japan,
let’s get nanakusa” while cutting the herbs into pieces.
Nanakusa(Seven Herbs)
・Seri(oenanthe javanica)
・nazuna(shepherd’s purse)
・gogyō(cudweed)
・hakobera(chickweed)
・hotokenoza(nipplewort)
・suzuna(turnip)
・suzushiro(radish)
<Ingredients>
For 5-6 persons
・Nanakusa
・1 cup of rice, 5 to 6 cups of water, a little salt
<How to cook>
① Wash rice and drain water
② Nanakusa are quickly salted and then exposed to cold water. In addition, it squeezes water and chopping it finely
③ Put the rice in a pot, add water and simmer for about 30 minutes
④ just before cooking, sprinkle the salt, put nanakusa
